"The first time I felt famous was when I got sent to the principal's office in the third grade. I actually enjoyed the notoriety."
--Mel Gibson |
| Brief Bio on Mr. Braveheart: |
Let's get something straight...before Brad Pitt, there was Mel Gibson.
Besides having blue eyes of steel and a natural radiance which bounces off
his impeccable talent, Mel is anything but just a mixed bag of makeup and
expensive hair products. Born originally in New York, Mel soon moved with
his family to Sydney, Australia because his father didn't want any of Mel's
older brothers to be drafted in the Vietnam war. After attending high school,
Mel's true dream was to become journalist. What a surprise it must have been
when Mel found out that he was enrolled in The National Institute of Dramatic
Art. Although his heart was set on experiencing adventures as a buckling writer,
Mel's sister perceived otherwise, and secretly submitted an application with his
name on it. Succumbing to his sister's persistence, Mel aspired to be an actor, later
on attaining the role of a surfer in an Australian production entitled, Summer City.
Eventually, Mel became internationally recognized when he landed the lead in
the action/sci-fi flick, Mad Max. Was it Mel's debonair looks and
dashing smile that won him the role? Not. Apparently, his face was badly
bruised and blemished from a barroom fight when he auditioned.
Mel's acting skills and lovely blood stains must of scored him brownie points with
the casting director.
Since Mad Max, Mel has impressed quite a few directors--allowing him to gain
prominent leads in movies such as the Oscar-winning Braveheart and Lethal Weapon
series. In 1980, he married Robyn Moore and together they conceived six children.
1990, 1991 and 1996 were good years for Mel; for during those years he was chosen as one of
the "50 Most Beautiful People" by People magazine. But nothing beats being
"The Sexiest Man Alive"...ask Mel, he was People's first.
